Law enforcement is asking for the public’s help locating a bank robbery suspect. According to the Anchorage Police Department, a First National Bank in east Anchorage was robbed Monday by a man who fled the scene.
Police were notified of the robbery shortly after 12:30. A male walked into the bank, on the 5300 block of E. Northern Lights Boulevard, handed the teller a note and demanded money, police wrote in a release.
The man claimed he was armed, APD said.
The suspect left with cash and fled in a red SUV with a black tailgate and a spare tire on the back.
The suspect is described as a black man in his 20s or 30s, 5 feet 7 inches tall, thin, and dressed in a tan jacket with a gray zip-up sweater underneath. He was also wearing a tan snap-on tools hat, police said.
A person of interest has been identified in the bank robbery, according to the local FBI office. The FBI and APD said Tuesday they are interested in speaking with Justin Whidbee, also known as “Spoon” of Anchorage, regarding the robbery.
