Anchorage Animal Care and Control (AACC) is trying to find the person responsible for taping a dog’s mouth shut.
Someone found the dog running loose in South Anchorage Tuesday. They took a picture of the tape around the dog’s mouth and neck and down its back before taking it off. The animal has been reunited safely with its owner, who was looking for the dog at the time.
AACC spokesperson Laura Atwood said it’s concerning someone would do that.
“That’s a little scary,” she said. “That dog was lucky that he was found. He could not have gotten that duct tape off. That potentially could have been a really dangerous and scary situation for that animal.”
Atwood said she doesn’t know why someone taped the dog’s mouth shut, but if there’s a nuisance dog in your neighborhood, she urges you to call AACC at 907-343-8118.
“That’s what we’re here for, so that we can respond to that type of situation, rather than taking matters into your own hands and doing something that could potentially cause harm to that animal,” she said.
The person responsible could face animal cruelty charges. If you know anything about this case, you’re asked to contact AACC.
