FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) – A 31-year-old Fairbanks rapper will spend 18 years in a federal prison for trafficking drugs.
The U.S. attorney’s office says in a release that Donnell Johnson, also known as “Creep,” was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court.
He was one of several people indicted in September 2012 in a scheme to traffic cocaine and other drugs. Officials said Johnson was the Fairbanks supervisor of the conspiracy, taking drugs from Anchorage for distribution in Fairbanks.
Officials said many of the accused were rappers and the drug money was used to “facilitate and legitimize” their music careers by making it appear as if they were profitable recording artists. Among those indicted were members of the Anchorage-based groups Out Da Cutt and Up North D Boys
