Anchorage police have arrested and charged a 23-year-old man with killing his mother’s boyfriend following an incident at an Anchorage motel Sunday.

A woman called police shortly after 6 a.m. Monday to report that her boyfriend would not wake up, according to a Tuesday release from the Anchorage Police Department (APD). A short time later, officers arrived at the Econo Inn on Fifth Ave. in Downtown Anchorage and pronounced the man dead at the scene.
According to APD, a group of people were watching football and drinking Sunday.
“During that time the victim was making fun of his girlfriend,” APD spokesperson Renee Oistad wrote in the release. “After the victim went to sleep, the girlfriend’s son physically beat the victim.”
Oistad confirmed in a phone call with KTVA Tuesday that the victim was “beaten to death.”
Elliot L. Myas has been arrested and charged with second-degree assault and manslaughter. He was taken to the Anchorage Jail.
The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin have been notified.
