Early Friday morning, a 22-year-old man showed up at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Although his injury was serious, Alaska State Trooper spokesperson Megan Peters said, he was lucky — it was non-life threatening.
The investigation is still in its early stages, but a trooper dispatch said they responded to the Interior hospital at 2:42 a.m.
According to Peters, investigators learned that four masked men forced their way into a residence on Lulabelle Lane in Fairbanks. The unidentified gunshot victim was with another person inside the home at the time. They said the 22-year-old got into a scuffle with one of the men who had a gun, when the man was shot.
Peters said the intruders stole a cellphone, dried marijuana and a couple of marijuana plants.
No one was with the 22-year-old when he was dropped off at the hospital, Peters added.
No arrests have been made, but troopers are following up on information.
Peters was unable to provide a description of the masked men, but anyone with additional information is urged to call troopers at 907-451-5100
