APD: Man to face felony charges after driving SUV down wrong side of highway

A man was arrested after driving the wrong way down the Seward Highway Monday morning, according to a release from the Anchorage Police Department.

Just after 7:30 a.m., police began receiving calls that a white Subaru Outback was being driven the wrong way down the highway near Huffman Road.

“As officers began arriving in the area, the suspect driver actively evaded capture and almost hit police vehicles more than once,” the APD release states.

Police have identified the driver as 24-year-old Vincentt David McQuaid. As he eluded police, McQuaid hit two vehicles with people inside, but no one was injured.

About 30 minutes later, as McQuaid was driving northbound in the southbound lanes, police were able to block the SUV in on the Seward Highway between Dowling and Tudor roads and take him into custody.

Police say McQuaid has been charged with multiple counts of felony assault and reckless endangerment, among other charges. The reason for his behavior is still under investigation, APD adds.
