ANCHORAGE – The Alaska National Guard confirms it’s investigating numerous cases of sexual misconduct within its ranks.
While the Guard declined to provide specifics on individual cases, officials said there are four cases of sexual assault, four cases of sexual harassment and four more cases of general misconduct. Assistant Adjutant General Mike Bridges said the Guard does everything in its power to help victims of sexual assault and harassment, and will find and penalize soldiers guilty of those crimes.
“We’ve got an excellent state sexual assault response coordinator that’s highly qualified and very, very proactive working with military and civilian resources to help anybody who’s a victim of harassment or sexual assault as far and as much as they choose to request,” Bridges said. “It’s there and available.”
Bridges said the U.S. Army also provides extensive anti-harassment and abuse training to all its recruits: He said it’s the duty of each soldier to live up to that code of conduct, values and ethics.
