An Anchorage teenager is facing charges related to a woman’s death following a mid-February collision.

The crash occurred on Elmore Road near 64th Avenue on Feb. 16 around 1:40 p.m., according to the Anchorage Police Department. Police said 17-year-old Mohamad Azzam was driving a Subaru Forrester northbound on Elmore when he crossed over into oncoming traffic and collided with a Volvo.

Bob Hobson, 77, was driving the Volvo, and his wife, 86-year-old Donna Hobson, was his passenger, police said in a statement on Tuesday.

“Donna had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Anchorage Fire Department and all three were transported to the hospital,” police wrote.

Following his release from the hospital that day, Azzam was booked at the McLaughlin Youth Center. Oistad said it was clear to police at that time that he was intoxicated.

Donna Hobson died on Feb. 22 from crash-related injuries, according to police.

On March 3, toxicology test results were finalized and showed Azzam was intoxicated at the time of the crash. Oistad said his blood-alcohol content level will not be publicly released until the trial.

On March 6, police charged Azzam as an adult with manslaughter, third-degree assault and driving under the influence.

Azzam’s bail was set at $10,000 cash corporate with a requirement for a third-party custodian, according to APD’s statement.

This is a developing story; please check back for updates.
