A man accused of stealing a vehicle with a toddler in the backseat on New Year’s Day has been found and arrested, according to the Anchorage Police Department.
Bruce King, 37, was wanted for the charge of first-degree vehicle theft for the New Year’s incident. The vehicle was recovered a short time after the theft, and the child was inside, unharmed, according to police.

More than two months later on March 12, police received a report around 9:42 p.m. of a prowler on the 3800 block of Spenard Road, APD spokeswoman Renee Oistad wrote.
“According to the caller a man was carrying a shovel, riding a bike, and checking vehicle doors,” Oistad said.
When police responded and spoke to the caller, the person said the suspect had attempted to jump in his truck and steal it.
An officer spotted a man matching the suspect’s description in the area of Spenard Road and Wyoming Drive. That officer spoke to the man, who gave the officer what was believed to be a fake name, according to Oistad.
“When the officer began to question the validity of the name the suspect began to walk away,” Oistad wrote. “When another patrol car pulled up, the man took off running and officers gave chase.”
At some point during the chase, the suspect’s face mask fell off, and the officer recognized the man as King, Oistad said. Police caught him and took him into custody “on top of a snow bank” on the 3700 block of Oregon Street, she added.
King again tried to give police another false name, according to Oistad, but police were able to confirm his identity at APD headquarters using his fingerprint.
Along with the vehicle theft charge, police charged King with providing false information, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Oistad said King’s bail was set at $1,000 cash only with a requirement for a third-party custodian.
