FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) – Alaska officials say vandals caused thousands of dollars worth of damage to Fairbanks public park trails.
Fairbanks North Star Borough officials say the vandals caused the damage by off-roading on a public park trail at Skyline Ridge Park not designed for vehicles.
The Fairbanks Daily News Miner reports one trail will be indefinitely closed until repairs are made. Officials say the incident occurred between May 28 and 29.
Parks superintendent John Haas says barriers that were meant to block motorized vehicle traffic from the trail had been moved. He also trees that were cut down, trash left behind and a truck stuck in the trail.
Haas says it’s the worst damage he has seen at the park in 15 years.
