A grand jury has indicted an alleged drunk driver who caused a crash that injured four people and shut down the Seward Highway for hours.
Gary Jones, 29, was indicted Thursday for his suspected role in a head-on collision back in late-May that left himself and three others seriously injured.
Anchorage Police say Jones was driving a black BMW northbound on the Seward Highway near mile marker 76 when he attempted to pass another vehicle at a high rate of speed and smashed head-on into a Ford Ranger, seriously injuring both of its occupants, which charging documents identified as Kayleah Dunlap and Loza Sergio Ramirez.
Both Jones and his passenger, Cory Blankenship, also sustained serious injuries. All four were hospitalized.
According to the arrest warrant, Jones’ BAC was measured at .19 about two hours after the crash.
Jones is facing three counts of first-degree assault, driving under the influence and reckless driving. If convicted on the assault charge, Jones could serve up to 20 years in prison.
