An Alaska correctional officer has been charged with a series of child-pornography offenses following a recent investigation, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Charges filed in Palmer court showed Stewart Lee Blakeslee, 34, was charged with two counts of distributing and 18 counts of possessing child porn. The distribution counts stem from a May 2 incident in Wasilla, and the possession counts are dated June 15 in Kasilof.

Charging documents against Blakeslee were still in Palmer court and not immediately available Tuesday afternoon.

Blakeslee had worked as a correctional officer at the Spring Creek Correctional Center in Seward at the time of the offenses, Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said in an email Tuesday. The case involved several Alaska venues, according to Peters, but had no links to any inmates at Spring Creek.

“He allegedly distributed the child pornography while in Wasilla,” Peters said. “He lives in Kasilof and allegedly child pornography was found at his home during the course of our investigation. Since the investigation started based off of the alleged distribution in Wasilla, that is where the case was filed in the courts.”

Alaska Department of Corrections spokeswoman Megan Edge said Blakeslee was on administrative leave from his position Tuesday.

Blakeslee was arraigned in Kenai on Saturday, records showed, with his bail initially set at $25,000. He remained in custody at the Wildwood Pretrial Facility, and made a telephonic appearance in Palmer court on Tuesday.

Bonney Bowman contributed information to this story.
