Airport Police are asking for the public’s help finding two suspects that were in an officer-involved shooting near the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport Wednesday morning.

Officials say around 7 a.m., Airport Police Officers were doing a welfare check on the two males who appeared to be sleeping inside a running, 2006 maroon 4-door Chevy Silverado pickup that was parked outside the Coast International Inn. When one of the officers went to check on the suspects, the driver appeared to be reaching for something, pulled forward, ramming into one of the parked police cars and then reversed into another parked car, almost hitting an officer who fired his gun, Airport Police say. The truck then drove off.

Police describe the driver as a white or mixed race male in his late 20s or early 30s, with a full “sleeve” tattoo on his left arm and possibly on the left side of his neck. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored flat bill hat and a silver and black football jersey. The only description police were able to give of the passenger is he appeared to be a Native adult male.

The pickup’s rear window was broken with multiple empty gas cans in the bed of the truck. No license plate was on the front, but police say the plate on the back was EYM367, which was not assigned to that vehicle. It was later found without the suspects inside. No details have been made on when and where it was found.

Officials say the officer who shot his gun is on administrative leave for the next 72 hours.

Police ask anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects to call non-emergency dispatch at 786-8900 (press “0” to speak to an operator). To remain anonymous you may contact Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP.

This is a developing story; check back for updates.
