People who live near East 5th Avenue and State Street in Muldoon say hearing gunshots at night is normal.
“It shouldn’t be, but it’s what it is,” said Tremaine Chisholm.
He and others became worried Tuesday night when the shots didn’t stop.
“It’s been going on for at least a month now. You’ll wake up in the middle of the morning just from gunshots, but last night takes the cake. That was the worst thing.”
Neighbors report thinking it was fireworks at first. One person who did not want to be identified told KTVA there was no talking, a van pulled up, then bullets started “zipping by and skipping across the ground.”
Anchorage Police say 30 to 40 shots were fired just before 10 p.m. Tuesday night, and one man was shot in the leg. He was transported to Providence Hospital with a non-life threatening wound.
Wednesday, bullet holes could be seen all over the neighborhood. APD says at least five parked vehicles and three residential structures were hit.
Neighbors say like any other summer night, there was easily a dozen kids playing outside by the street at the time.
“I heard the kids screaming,” said another neighbor who didn’t wish to be identified. He said bullets went everywhere, with no rhyme or reason, “They were up here, down here, like there was a shot all the way up here, shots down there, somehow got right there and somehow two went that way,” he said pointing to various bullet holes.
One bullet hole is in a children’s swing set, where a neighbor says kids would have been playing, had they not been at the movies that night.

APD says at this point in the investigation they believe the shooting was targeted, but, they’re still trying to determine how many people were involved and the motive behind the shooting.
This isn’t the first time gunfire exchanged in Muldoon has left surrounding property riddled with bullets. Less than three weeks ago, there were two shootings within two days. No one was hurt in those incidents, and police say they don’t have any evidence that the shootings are connected.
No suspect descriptions have been released, and no suspects have been arrested.
APD says anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call Dispatch at 907-786-8900. To remain anonymous, you may contact Crime Stoppers at 907-561-STOP, or online at www.anchoragecrimestoppers.com.
