An Anchorage man was arrested last week, after police say he stabbed and severely wounded another man with an electronics tool.

Cortez Damond Snorton, 39, is charged with first-degree assault in the Friday incident, according to police spokeswoman Renee Oistad. Officers responded shortly before 1 a.m. to reports of the stabbing, on the 6000 block of East 12th Avenue.

“Two adult males were outside with several other individuals; the two men got into a verbal altercation over a cellphone,” Oistad wrote in a statement. “The argument escalated and (Snorton) began stabbing the other male in the neck and torso with a soldering iron.”

The victim was taken to a hospital with “serious but survivable” injuries, Oistad said. Officers didn’t find Damond at the scene, but he was taken into custody a few blocks away.

Snorton was in custody at the Anchorage Jail Wednesday morning, according to a statewide inmate database. Court records showed he was arraigned Saturday, with a public defender assigned to the case and his bail set at a total of $20,500.
