A South Anchorage confrontation Tuesday night ended with a man stabbed in the midsection, police said, and his brother held on assault charges in the case.
Cyrus Nukapigak, 32, is charged with offenses including second-degree assault and theft as well as third-degree forgery, police spokesman MJ Thim said in a statement.
Police responding just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday to a report of the attack, on the 7400 block of Margaret Circle, found the victim “stabbed multiple times in the stomach” according to Thim. He was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
“The preliminary investigation found that (Nukapigak) stabbed his brother with a pocket knife after the two were involved in an argument and fight,” Thim wrote. “The victim was stabbed after confronting Nukapigak for attempting to forge a check from their brother.”
Police searching Nukapigak’s belongings found a checkbook belonging to the third brother, which Nukapigak wasn’t authorized to use.
No further details on the case were available Wednesday, Thim said in an email.
Nukapigak was held at the Anchorage Jail after the stabbing.
