ANCHORAGE – For two weeks, a jury has mulled over testimony in a 2011 double murder case.
Friday, members returned verdicts.
Ryan Lualu’s family was visibly relieved to hear he was found not guilty of first-degree or second-degree murder for the death of 28-year-old Ka Meng Chang. However, Lualu was found guilty of tampering with evidence.
Vang Chang was found guilty of third-degree assault and tampering with evidence for hiding the gun his cousin Lee Chang used to shoot Trudie Simon.
For that, Lee Chang was found guilty of attempted murder.
The jury could not reach a verdict, however, in Lee Chang’s murder charge for the shooting death of 35-year-old Emilio Ramirez.
“The state still has to analyze what it is we’re going to do with count one, the count involving Lee Chang for the alleged murder of Emlio Ramirez,” said prosecuting attorney Clint Campion. “We’ll have to deliberate on that and figure out what the best plan of action is moving forward, so it’s not quite over with respect to guilt or not guilt.”
Campion says he expects the state to re-try Lee Chang for the October 11, 2011 murder of Emilio Ramirez that was the result of a gunfight in the parking lot of JJ’s Lounge in East Anchorage.
