ANCHORAGE – A 58-year-old man faces a variety of charges after allegedly attacking a pair of troopers at a Kodiak home late Friday night.

Alaska State Troopers said William Yovino Sr. is charged with hindering prosecution, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and third and fourth-degree assault on a police officer. According to AST dispatch, Yovino had barricaded the door then fought with troopers when they arrived to arrest his son on assault charges just before midnight Friday.

Troopers said William Yovino Jr., 31, had been accused of causing a disturbance earlier that evening, but had left the residence in question by the time AST arrived. Just before 11:15 p.m., troopers said a woman reported that the younger Yovino had arrived at her residence and assaulted her. While troopers said Yovino Sr. intervened and allowed the woman to leave the residence, he refused to let troopers in when they arrived shortly thereafter.

Despite his efforts, troopers said they were able to enter the home. But when they tried to arrest the younger Yovino, the father fought with them, injuring two troopers.

The troopers were both treated and released at Kodiak Island Hospital, AST said, and both Yovinos were taken to Kodiak Jail.

Yovino Jr. faces charges of fourth-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree assault, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.
