ANCHORAGE – An officer-involved shooting Sunday evening followed reports of an impaired driver near Wasilla, Alaska State Troopers said.
According to trooper dispatch, the driver failed to stop at the direction of a police officer. One trooper and one Wasilla police officer were involved in the shooting, which happened near the Seward Meridian Parkway just after 9 p.m.
Troopers said the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, and a passenger received a non-life-threatening injury. No officers were injured in the incident, AST said.
The shooting is under investigation by the Alaska Bureau of Investigation and the Wasilla Police Department, with the bureau taking the lead, troopers said. Neither the driver, passenger or law enforcement officers involved have yet been identified, and troopers said no other information is immediately available.
