A teenage girl has died and her killer remains at large following a shooting near Mountain View Elementary School Tuesday morning, police said.

Precious Alex, 15, was hit in the leg and the back after five shots were fired through a bedroom window in an apartment on the 600 block of North Flower Street, family members said. Anchorage Police Department dispatchers received word of the shooting around 3:15 a.m., but Alex was bleeding profusely and died soon afterwards at a local hospital.

Dana Sweatt, the teenager’s grandmother, said Alex had attended Lathrop High School in Fairbanks, but moved to Anchorage to live with her mother. She was enrolled in the Nine Star program, Sweatt said, and would have turned 16 this coming Mother’s Day.

“If you know anything, if you know anyone, just call in,” Sweatt said. “Death is forever. My granddaughter is gone.”

While officers scoured the block with K-9 units and detained at least one witness for questioning Tuesday morning, police said no arrests have been made.

This is a developing story — check back for updates.
