U.S. Army Alaska officials say a Fort Wainwright soldier faces numerous felony charges following the death of his 3-year-old son April 4.
According to a statement released Wednesday evening, 23-year-old Sgt. Nathaniel E. Ulroan was detained by Fort Wainwright police April 4 after they found the young boy dead at the soldier’s home on base. Ulroan is charged with one count of premeditated murder, one count of kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of assault consummated by battery and one count of communicating a threat, Army officials said.
A member of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Ulroan is an Ohio native who enlisted in 2008, Army officials said. After completing training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Army officials said Ulroan was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord before his 2012 assignment to Fort Wainwright as a combat engineer. He has been deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Army officials said the soldier is currently being held at the Fairbanks Correctional Center, awaiting a pretrial hearing to determine whether there’s enough evidence to warrant a court-martial trial. The case remains under investigation by the Army Criminal Investigation Command, Army officials said.
