A 3-year-old boy is doing better at a local hospital after his mother admitted to stabbing him Tuesday afternoon.
Tracia Jordan-Sainte, 40, was arraigned Wednesday and charged with assault and attempted murder. Jordan-Sainte seemed disoriented in front of the judge and had difficulty answering basic questions, at one point even swearing at the judge.
Charging documents say Jordan-Sainte wanted to commit suicide Tuesday afternoon, but when police got to her room at the Safe Harbor Inn they found her little boy injured instead. Jordan-Sainte told police she had stabbed her son, whose neck was described as “split completely open.”
The judge set Jordan-Sainte’s bail at $500,000 and told her she was to have no contact with her son. She left the courtroom looking confused.
Prosecutors said Jordan-Sainte has family in New York but none in Alaska. Ultimately, it will be up to the Office of Children’s Services to decide what happens with her son, who is currently in state custody.
