Three men with warrants were arrested Wednesday evening following a standoff in Spenard.

Around 1:45 p.m., police went to serve felony arrest warrants for Zachary Lepry, 29, and Dale Ohler, 31, at a residence on the 2700 block of West 42nd Avenue, said Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Castro in a statement. Authorities wound up arresting 35-year-old Kris Reuer, who also had a felony warrant, as a result of the standoff.

Police said they were able to apprehend Lepry outside, but that Ohler ran inside the residence and barricaded himself in.

K-9 units and additional patrols were on scene, along with a negotiator. Parts of Turnagain Boulevard and West 42 Avenue were shut down during the hours-long standoff.

Police learned that two other men, one of whom was Reuer, and a woman were inside the residence with Ohler.

“SWAT deployed multiple less lethal tactics in an attempt to get Ohler and the other subjects to come out of the residence,” Castro said.

The unidentified man and woman came out of the residence, surrendered to police and were released.

A little before 6 p.m., Ohler peacefully surrendered to police and was arrested, Castro said.

At about 6:15 p.m., police sent out an alert through Nixle saying officers were shutting down Spenard Road from Barbara Drive to Wisconsin Street. They said they were deploying gas to try to get Reuer to come outside. Police asked people to shut their windows and doors.

Reuer stayed inside the residence until after the gas deployment, Castro said.

In an alert issued a few minutes after 7 p.m., police said they had reopened Spenard Road.

A little after 8 p.m., police were able to locate Reuer inside and take him into custody.

“In this situation we had some high-risk felony warrants, some high-risk individuals here who are known to resist law enforcement,” Castro said. “When the risk is high like that we want to make sure we’re ready to respond to it and it just requires a lot of resources.”

At least one of the suspects was armed, Castro said, but no shots were fired.

The nearby McDonald’s shut down its drive-thru during the standoff to help with citizen safety, Castro said.
