Since April 17, Alaska State Troopers have responded to four separate reports of child abuse or sexual abuse of a minor in Kodiak, according to trooper dispatch.
All of the cases are under investigation by AST and the Child Advocacy Center, troopers said. The cases are not related, said trooper spokeswoman Beth Ipsen in an email.
The first was reported April 17, when troopers said they received allegations that several Kodiak foster care children had possibly been abused. According to trooper dispatch, AST received two more reports Monday. One, received just before noon, alleged possible abuse of a single child. Later that day, just after 3 p.m., troopers said they received another report alleging possible sexual abuse of a minor. In that case, AST said investigation revealed there may have been multiple victims.
The fourth report of child sexual abuse was received around 2:30 p.m. yesterday, troopers said, and the investigation is ongoing.
“There is no rhyme or reason as to the influx of reports,” Ipsen said. More information will be released “if and when” charges are made, she said.
The population of Kodiak was 6,130 in 2010, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
