A federal grand jury has indicted an Anchorage doctor on 18 felony counts of Medicaid billing fraud.

Dr. Shubhranjan Ghosh, 39, of Anchorage is also charged with committing a scheme to defraud Medicaid, tampering with evidence in an investigation and 15 counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance.

Ghosh is the founder of Ghosh Psychiatric Services. He was arrested in April after an employee in his South Anchorage office reported numerous discrepancies in his Medicaid billing. According to charging documents, Ghosh tried to swindle more than $340,000.

Since October 2012, the Alaska Medicaid Fraud Control Unit has charged 11 other defendants for Medicaid fraud and abuse. Ghosh’s arraignment is slated for July 28.
