The Anchorage Police Department is asking for public help finding a 4-month-old boy and his mother, who’s wanted on several charges.
In a written statement released Monday afternoon, APD said 30-year-old Erica Gibbs faces counts of custodial interference and child neglect. According to police, officers were called to a residence on the 4000 block of San Roberto Avenue July 22 to help the Office of Children’s Services take emergency custody of Gibbs’ son, 4-month-old Dominik Gibbs. When officers arrived, the pair was nowhere to be found, and police said they learned Gibbs had left the home on foot shortly beforehand.
While officers were able to apprehend her near Pine Street and Chena Avenue, they said Gibbs — who has a criminal history — was uncooperative and would not tell them her son’s location. Police said they were unable to find Dominik, despite searching various residences.
Anyone that might be harboring Gibbs or her child could face criminal charges for interfering with the case, police said.
“There’s interference charges, there are other things they could be charged with if we’re able to prove that somehow they were assisting someone in a case like this, so there can be legal repercussions as well,” said APD spokeswoman Jennifer Castro. “But obviously the biggest thing is to make sure the child is safe and OK.”
APD said anyone with information on Erica and Dominik Gibbs’ whereabouts are asked to call police dispatch at 786-8900.
