Anchorage police have charged a 51-year-old man in a deadly shooting at a Midtown senior assisted-living home.
Paul Miller is charged with first- and second-degree murder after police say he shot and killed 63-year-old Eduardo Escalante Tuesday.
Police received a call that a man had been shot at a home on the 300 block of East 24th Avenue around 5:15 p.m. When police and medics reached the home, they found Escalante dead. His next-of-kin have been notified, police said, and an investigation continues.
The owner of the assisted-living home said Escalante was a caregiver. This marks the municipality’s ninth murder of 2014. That’s about half the number of killings Anchorage averages each year, police said.
