The former Marine charged with murdering his alleged lover, 19-year-old Erin Corwin, appeared in Anchorage court Tuesday afternoon for his arraignment.
Christopher Lee is charged by the state as a fugitive from justice from the state of California. The 24-year-old was taken into custody Sunday night near the Jewel Lake home where he’d been staying since returning to Anchorage. He’d been in the state a month after being honorably discharged from the Marines, say police.
Authorities believe Lee may have murdered Corwin then hid her body in a California mine shaft.
New information released by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department reveals that Lee had been looking into how to dispose of a human body. A witness also informed detectives that Lee asked the best way to dispose of a body, according to a police report.
The report also revealed that detectives recovered .22-caliber fired casings and rebar with Corwin’s body. The head stamp from the casings matched those found in Lee’s vehicle and residence.
At Tuesday’s arraignment, Lee declined to waive extradition. Prosecutors say the governor of California must now request extradition from Alaska’s governor. His bail was set at $2 million.
Lee’s wife, mom and other family members were present at the arraignment and declined to comment at this time.
Lee is set appear in court next week to sort out issues concerning his attorney.
