The Anchorage Police Department is seeking public help locating a woman wanted on several felony warrants following an alleged sexual assault at an Anchorage motel.
According to court records, 22-year-old Mariya Kalinina faces two counts of first-degree sexual assault and a single count of third-degree assault with a weapon. In a written statement distributed Friday afternoon, APD said the charges stem from an Aug. 11 incident involving 25-year-old Casey Jones and 24-year-old Lydell Butler. The trio was indicted Wednesday.
The indictment describes the alleged August assault, saying that the victim was sexually penetrated with bullets and a broomstick at an Anchorage motel. The victim told police he was able to escape through a bedroom window and jumped out from the second floor. He landed on his feet and ran for help.
The victim reported he’d been physically assaulted with a flashlight, one or more firearms and hands and feet, court documents say. The victim initially refused a forensic sexual assault examination but was transported to Providence Alaska Medical Center for treatment. He told police where the assault took place and authorities obtained a search warrant for a motel room. They seized a bloody flashlight and broomstick, clothing, and paperwork that appeared to belong to Butler.
According to Anchorage police, Kalinina, Jones and Butler assaulted the victim to “try to recover and/or exact revenge for missing heroin,” court documents say.
The morning of Aug. 12., police were dispatched to the Magic Wand Car Wash on Dimond Boulevard after it was reported that a car was parked in one of car wash stalls and that the car’s three occupants wouldn’t leave. Jones was identified as the person in the driver’s seat and had a warrant for his arrest related to another alleged crime. Police also found a gun on Jones that had the serial number removed. He was initially taken to Providence for a possible drug overdose. After Jones was released, he was arrested and taken to the Anchorage Jail.
Butler was also taken to Providence for a possible drug overdose. He was eventually arrested for a probation violation for another crime.
The victim later changed his mind regarding a sexual assault examination. Police say there was evidence of sexual assault.
Kalinina, Jones and Butler all have prior convictions, including felonies.
APD said Kalinina is 5 feet 2 inches tall and about 125 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes; anyone with information on her whereabouts can contact police dispatch at 786-8900 or submit an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers here.
