A shooting in East Anchorage has left one man dead, says the Anchorage Police Department.
Authorities responded to a call just after 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon that a male had been shot at the Russian Jack apartment complex located on Reka Drive.
At least four people were in the apartment when the shooting occurred, said Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Castro.
APD says the victim was shot by another male inside the apartment.
According to police, there was an altercation that took place in the apartment. It escalated from a verbal altercation to a physical one and ultimately led to the homicide, Castro said.
“It sounds like, at this point in time, all of the associated parties knew each other,” said Castro, adding that police aren’t sure if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the incident.
When medics arrived at the scene, they found the male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was declared deceased at the scene, police said.
A suspect has not been taken into custody. The suspected shooter fled from the scene, police say.
“We are pairing together witness statements at this time for a suspect description,” Castro said. “However, that’s not a description we’re willing to release at this time.”
Authorities will release more information on the victim after they have notified his next-of-kin, Castro said.
The investigation will be handled by APD’s crime scene investigation team.
This is an ongoing story.
