A Kaltag man sustained serious injuries after a 43-year-old man fired at him with a shotgun, Alaska State Troopers say.
Thursday around 3:30 a.m., troopers received a report from a third party that Todd Nickoli had shot Rusty Arkell, 35, at a Kaltag home, said AST spokeswoman Megan Peters. Arkell was treated locally and then flown to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. Although his injuries are serious, they are believed to be non-life-threatening.
Two troopers went to Kaltag to investigate and Nickoli was arrested. He was taken to Fairbaks and remanded to the Fairbanks Correctional Center for first-degree attempted murder.
Located in Western Alaska, Kaltag is a community of about 200, according to state data.
