ANCHORAGE – A 25-year-old man who held up a local grocery store with a BB gun Tuesday morning faces charges ranging from assault to robbery, police said.

According to a statement from the Anchorage Police Department, Mandallo Shearrod entered the Carrs store on Gambell Street around 9:30 a.m. and began loading items into a bag. When a clerk asked Shearrod to use a shopping cart, he brandished the gun. He later made verbal threats and pointed the BB gun at another clerk who tried to confront him as he left the store, police said.

Officers found Shearrod on the street nearby shortly thereafter, and said he followed their commands to drop his weapon.

He was taken into custody without incident, police said, and faces charges of third-degree theft, second-degree criminal trespassing, third-degree assault and first-degree robbery.
