KENAI, Alaska (AP) – An Anchorage man has pleaded not guilty to murder and manslaughter charges following the death earlier this month of a California man at a Cooper Landing home.

The Peninsula Clarion reports (http://bit.ly/1criWi4) Paul Andrew Vermillion entered his not guilty pleas to first- and second-degree murder and manslaughter on Monday. He appeared telephonically from the Anchorage jail, where’s he’s being held for medical examinations.

Previous attempts to hold the arraignment hearing weren’t successful.

Alaska State Troopers found 27-year-old Genghis Muskox, a recent transplant from California, dead after a fight at Vermillion’s home. Troopers say Vermillion called the Soldotna post, saying there had been a fight in his home and a man was dead.

Authorities say Muskox had been shot several times, including twice in the head.
