Updated Monday, March 9 at 12:15 p.m.

Alaska State Troopers shot and injured a woman at a Fairbanks home after she reportedly threatened another woman Sunday evening.

Around 7 p.m. Sunday, troopers received a report that a woman had turned a gun on a woman at a residence near Dale Road, according to AST spokeswoman Beth Ipsen.

Troopers responded, and “during the course of the interaction at the home with the woman who had reportedly pointed the gun, troopers fired at the woman, injuring her,” the dispatch says.

The woman was taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for treatment of apparent non-life-threatening injuries, troopers said. AST’s Alaska Bureau of Investigation is looking into the cause and circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Toopers worked through the night and into the early morning in an effort to reduce any potential interference with the Iditarod restart on Dale Road, Ipsen said. Per department policy, the names of the troopers involved will be withheld for 72 hours.
