ANCHORAGE – Police tried to serve court paperwork to a man on the 1600 block of Eastridge Drive Wednesday around 5 p.m. when he said he was armed and may have a bomb, police said.
A SWAT team and explosive ordnance disposal unit were then called out to a multiplex building after the man barricaded himself in the residence.
At about 7 p.m., they were “engaged in an active response with the barricaded subject,” said police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro in a statement.
About 20 minutes later, police said they had safely taken the suspect into custody. Authorities are checking the area for any possibly explosive devices.
Police said they have evacuated at least two families from neighboring units.
