An 18-year-old Delta Junction man charged with beating his step-father with a fireplace poker is facing additional assault charges for hitting his cellmate with a food tray.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports (http://bit.ly/1O8SLjN ) that charging documents say the man’s bloodied and scratched step-father told Alaska State Troopers the teenager threw a phone at him, punched him in the face, kicked him, hit him with a fireplace poker, broke the glass on a wood stove and hit the hood of the man’s truck with the poker.
Troopers found the stepson hiding in the woods nearby, charged him with assault and took him to Fairbanks Correctional Center.
The next day, jail staff told troopers that surveillance footage showed the man hitting his sleeping cellmate with a heavy food tray several times.
