Update: Around 3:20 p.m. Anchorage police said they successfully entered the house, where they found the man deceased.
ANCHORAGE – A man barricaded in a South Anchorage residence following a dispute with a woman may be armed, police said.
According to the Anchorage Police Department, the situation began around 5:30 a.m. Sunday when a woman reported a man she had been arguing with threatened to kill her. While she was able to escape the residence on the 9000 block of William Jones Circle and flee to a neighbor’s home, police said the man refused to come out or obey officer commands when they arrived at the scene.
Shortly after noon, APD SWAT members were called to the multiplex, where the as-yet unidentified man remains barricaded inside. Other residents were evacuated from the building shortly thereafter, police said. Officers used “less lethal” force — including gas — in attempts to apprehend the suspect, and warned nearby residents to close their windows around 2:30 p.m.
This is a developing story.
