Anchorage police say they have found and arrested a man accused of stabbing someone in a homeless camp.
Police have been looking for 19-year-old Johnathan Anaruk since the night of Aug. 18, when an argument in a homeless camp ended in violence. Witnesses told police Anaruk was taking things from another male in the camp, leading to a confrontation between the two males, as well as a female. Anaruk allegedly stabbed the female before fleeing on foot.
Police obtained an arrest warrant for Anaruk, charging him with multiple counts of assault, as well as theft.
At 9:33 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18, police found Anaruk sleeping inside a vehicle on the 4200 block of West 72nd Avenue, a statement from police spokeswoman Renee Oistad said.
Police took Anaruk to the Anchorage Correctional Complex, where he is being held without bail pending his arraignment.
Anaruk has previous convictions of assault, as well as escape.
