ANCHORAGE – A “suspicious package” for a motel guest resulted in the seizure of a kilogram of cocaine and half a kilo of heroin Wednesday, authorities said.
Special Assignment Unit officers of the Anchorage Police Department were contacted by a local motel regarding the “suspicious package” that was being delivered to a guest, according to a statement from police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro.
Officers contacted 27-year-old Markee Allen of California, the man the package was addressed to, and obtained a search warrant for the package, Castro said.
Police seized a kilo of cocaine and half a kilo of heroin — which has a combined street value of $400,000 and a wholesale value of $151,000, according to police. A kilogram is about 2.2 pounds.
Allen is detained pending federal charges, Castro said. He was charged Thursday in a federal complaint for attempting to possess cocaine and heroin with intent to distribute the drugs.
He is expected to be arraigned in federal court Friday afternoon.
