Anchorage police have identified the victim in last Thursday’s deadly stabbing on East Third Avenue.
Police say 24-year-old Kyle A. Rea was killed in the stabbing that occurred near the Brother Francis Shelter and Beans Cafe.
Police say Rea was stabbed on the sidewalk. He then walked to Bean’s Cafe for help, where staff started first aid and called 911.
He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Bean’s Café Executive Director Lisa Sauder said he was one of their regulars.
“It is always chaotic when something like that happens and it’s very hard on the staff,” Sauder said. “These are often times people that we see every day, that we develop relationships with, friendships with, and that we care about.”
Many say violence near the popular homeless hangout is common, but, murder is not.
This marks Anchorages 16th homicide of the year.
APD is still searching for a person of interest who they described as an Alaska Native male in his late-20s or early-30s with short black hair and a slight mustache who stands between 6-foot and 6-foot-2 and weighing between 210 and 225 pounds.
