An Anchorage man awaiting trial on felony charges faces two additional counts after allegedly cutting off his ankle monitor and boarding a flight for Hawaii, police said.
Joshua Leigh, 32, was further charged with violating his conditions of release and third-degree criminal mischief. According to a statement from the Anchorage Police Department, Leigh’s Saturday morning escape began when he cut off his ankle monitor at a local hardware store just before 9 a.m. Investigation revealed that Leigh then boarded a flight for Maui.
After APD obtained an extraditable warrant for his arrest, police said Leigh was apprehended by Maui police and returned to Alaska when his flight landed in Hawaii.
