Police: Man vandalizes fitness club, locks himself in

Anchorage police say they’ve arrested a man who did major damage to a fitness club and then locked himself in.

Police say 29-year old Deepak Chaudhary used an electric card, issued to members to get into the Body Renew Fitness Club at 202 E. Northern Lights.

Once inside, police say, Chaudhary destroyed computers, phones and other office equipment.

They also Say Chaudhary tore a water fountain off the wall causing extensive water damage.

While he was destroying the office equipment, police say, Chaudhary also disabled the electronic door mechanism, locking himself inside the building.

There was an emergency exit, but it appears Chaudhary didn’t notice it.

Police found Chaudhary hiding in the gym between two exercise mats pretending to be asleep.

He has been charged with Burglary and Criminal Mischief.

Total damage at fitness club is estimated between $20,000 and $30,000.
