A standoff ended with an arrest after a man barricaded himself in his East Anchorage home Friday morning.
At about 6:30 a.m., police responded to an assault call at a six-plex on the 3100 block of Peterkin Avenue, the Anchorage Police Department said in a statement. The victim said that her boyfriend, 30-year-old Kris Albert Wasuli, had assaulted her and threatened her with a knife.
When officers arrived at the home, they were able to remove two adults and a child from the residence. Wasuli, however, had barricaded himself inside and wouldn’t come out, APD said. No firearms were believed to be in the home, but Wasuli was brandishing a knife and threatening to hurt himself.
By 7 a.m., negotiators and a SWAT team made it to the scene. People in two units of the six-plex were evacuated while negotiators tried to communicate with Wasuli. He refused to cooperate with authorities and remained indoors until about 10:45 a.m. when the SWAT team entered through the front door and found him asleep in a bed, according to the APD statement.
The SWAT team escorted him from the residence and he was treated by on-scene medics for self-inflicted lacerations on his wrists. He was hospitalized for further treatment.
Once released from a local hospital around 1 p.m., he was booked at the Anchorage Jail and charged with multiple counts of assault. He is being held without bail.
