ANCHORAGE – Alaska State Troopers are at the halfway point of an effort to make the roads less dangerous during the holidays, they said. It’s part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” national DUI enforcement that began Dec. 13 and ends Jan. 1.

From Dec. 13 to 22, troopers dished out 22 misdemeanor DUI arrests and made three felony DUI arrests. Thirty drivers were charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license and 140 additional drivers were contacted after being pinned as REDDI reports — but were determined to not be driving under the influence, according to a statement from the Department of Public Safety.

There were 127 damage-only crashes, eight injury crashes and no fatal collisions investigated by troopers. Of 474 citations issued, 92 were for speeding and 20 were for seatbelt or other restraint violations, the statement said.

The numbers are a product of normal patrols coupled with extra enforcement.
