ANCHORAGE - An Anchorage couple has been accused of stealing greeting cards from mailboxes, looking for cash to buy drugs.
The Anchorage Daily News reports (http://is.gd/GlvsIc) James and Melody Jane Baehm were arrested Sunday and charged Monday in U.S. District Court.
Authorities allege the couple had gone through mailboxes in South Anchorage, looking for cards that might contain cash or gift cards.
Police had been on the outlook for a black sedan that had been seen near mailboxes with letters on the ground.
Officers found the car Sunday, and arrested the couple. Police said there were letters and packages in the car not addressed to the couple.
Police said the couple had netted about $20 and three or four gift cards.
